SMOS Picks Spring/Summer 2014 Round 1

Hey Everyone,

This blog is all about playoffs! It will be a 3 part Blog and will continue for the next few days. In the last few season Here at LCRH I feel like we have been lacking a little bit in creating some buzz around playoff time for our leagues. So I decided that I would try and create some buzz in a new way using my blog. I am going to pick my favorite for each division to win the championship this season. I’m hoping this can help with making playoffs a little more exciting around here at the rink. All of our leagues are past midway point now for the season so I thought this was as good of time as any to make my picks! Just so we are all clear… this is my picks and not the choice of anyone else here at LCRH it’ll be interesting to see how this all shakes out. I told Joey Burek that I could predict about 80% of the champions this season. Round 1 of the picks is for our Monday and Tuesday night league. I hope i have these right!

So with that being said here is SMOEYS PICKS.

MONDAY NIGHT LEAGUES

30 IRON – My pick is going to be The Force. With Treppa and Pedigo in the  top 5 in points at this point of the season. I cant see this team losing to many more games here on out. I’ve seen this team battle back from 4-0 deficit to come back and win. You can never count this team out and I expect to see them in the finals.

25 Over – I have to go with HOT SHOTS. A built team in the beginning of the season turned out to be one of the strongest teams in our building this season. The Weier brothers are Joe Dumars version of the Sedin twins. These two seem to find each other where ever they are on the floor and both can bury that puck. Both brothers have an equal 24 points this season and that only with 6 games under their belts!

45 and over House – One of our more laid back but fun to watch league we have. My pick has got to be Kellys heros. This team has it all, Talent, speed, finesse and Loads of experience with Dwight Thomas manning the helm this team will find a sure way into the Finals.

In our Tuesday night leagues we have a plethora of skills and leagues one of our top leagues GOLD is played on Tuesdays. In this league it could go to any team but because im bias and I like seeing my teams win on occasion i’m picking Average SMOs. Its hard to lose games when you have Ryan Perry scoring goals from behind net in every game this season. (its almost like having Wayne Gretzky playing for us if Wayne played roller and Ryan passed the puck a little more….

Do you see the resemblance?  yeah me either ….. lol

Bronze Tuesday pick has to go to TABBY’s With a 7-1 record this team is hard to beat. The Reason being their goalie is hard to put the puck past.

Copper Tuesday is going to the underdog team this time and will be Team Scooter. Scooter is like the Dumars Reggie Dunlop hes a great player coach and with him leading his team I cant see any other team taking the championship.

That does it for round 1 of my picks for this season I will continue tomorrow with Wednesday and Thursday night leagues.

Thats it for now

Roller Hockey Great for your Ice game!

Roller Hockey can play a big part in the advancement of your hockey career. Inline Hockey can help with your Vision on ice, your puck control, your patience and even your endurance. I was a loss for words this weekend when a parent of one of our youth participants here at Little Caesars roller hockey stated that their coach laughed at them for rushing to get to a roller hockey game after their ice practice had finished… Come on ICE coaches get with the picture and figure it out! There is a reason that more and more players that enter the NHL have great hands and awesome vision on the ice.

With such little opportunity for individuals to spend time on frozen ponds or back yard ice rinks, Its becoming more common that Ice hockey players are converting their skills over to Inline hockey to practice there creativity and puck handling skills. The number of Ice hockey players being drafted to the NHL or receiving college scholarships is growing every year. We alone at Little Caesars Roller Hockey have had many players play Inline hockey with us that are now furthering their careers in the sport. here is a little list of a few of them.

Brandon Hawkins – Currently playing for Sioux City Musketeers (USHL) , Committed to Bowling Green University (NCAA)

Tyler Spezia- Currently Playing for Youngstown Phantoms (USHL), Committed to Bowling Green University (NCAA)

Robbie Czarnik – Manchester Monarchs (AHL)

Austin Czarnik – Miami University (Ohio) (NCAA)

Anthony Maiani – Allen Americans (CHL) Denver University (NCAA)

Cameron Johnson – Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)

Cameron Yarwood – Victoriaville Tiger (QMJHL)

Stephan Beauvais – Pembroke Lumber Kings (CCHL)

that is obviously just to name a few. but the proof is right there all of the above players played roller hockey growing and are all further their careers with the sport. So “hurt your ice game” is completely false.

So the next time you hear your coaching saying something as crazy as ROLLER HOCKEY HURTS YOUR GAME. Laugh at him and show him the truth.

All facts about these players were found at http://www.hockeydb.com in case you honestly want to show the examples to your “know it all coaches”

State Wars

If you haven’t been to State Wars I suggest you get your act together and get your butts signed up next year. State Wars is on its 9th year and this will be personally my 5th year playing in the event. This tournament is somthing that I think everyone should try once in their life. With a no risk policy on their tryouts there is no reason that every kid shouldnt just go out and give it a try. State Wars deffinatley puts on one of the best tournaments around. from the vendors,to the skills competition, to the award ceromonies and even the scholorships. State Wars is one of the powerhouses in our sport. This year Im going to try and give updates for all the team Michigan teams on a couple blogs. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Beautiful Darien Sports plex!

Summer Has really began

This is a little late but I guess I never posted it when I should have lol.

For me the start of summer never has been when school is done for the year, or the warm weather outside. I can honestly say that the NARCH Regional at Joe Dumars Fieldhouse is truly my start to summer. I played in my first narch event in 1998 and since then I have waited for memorial day weekend to come every year. The excitment you see in everyones face when they walk through the doors of the fieldhouse is why I love the job I have. I look forward to seeing everyone this weekend for a lot of fun and even more memories.

First Blog ever…

Well I figure after all my years of being in this sport I figure its about time I write my thoughts down on paper or a computer screen I guess. Its no secret that I have a ton of passion for the sport of Inline hockey. Just like everyone else I have my own thoughts and opinions on every topic you could think of. My plan is to get at least one of these out a month but we all know that will probably not happen. I will be giving updates on nationals, Camps, clinics etc. score updates from michigan teams in National tourneys. I don’t know how many of you will read this or if any of you will. For me thats not what writing a blog is about. Its more about getting my thoughts down so i stop talking to myself..

I think for my first blog thats all I have.

Keep skating.
